Elekta has acquired the patent portfolio for Philips’ Pinnacle treatment planning system (TPS).
The duo came to an agreement to transfer Philips’ patent portfolio in radiation oncology treatment planning to Elekta with the aim of further innovation in radiation therapy treatment planning and workflow optimization. By integrating the technologies, they hope to offer a seamless transition for Pinnacle users to Elekta ONE planning. This includes data conversion services.
Philips and Elekta began a long-term partnership to advance personalized cancer care through precision oncology solutions in 2021. These span CT and MR simulation to treatment planning, preparation, and delivery.
“Thanks to continued investments over the years, our treatment planning system supports both Elekta and non-Elekta devices, including proton therapy, making Elekta ONE Planning one of the most competitive solutions in the market,” said Elekta’s president of Linac and software solutions Maurits Wolleswinkel. “At ESTRO, we will unveil exciting new capabilities, including novel scripting elements inspired by Pinnacle, demonstrating Elekta ONE’s competitive advantage.”
“We are pleased that we can continue to support our customers with leading solutions in radiation oncology,” added Philips’ business leader of clinical informatics Martijn Hartjes. “This is a logical next step in the strong long-term collaboration between Philips and Elekta in the radiotherapy domain to improve cancer care together.”
