Following the news release from January 16, 2023, Ilika and Cirtec Medical announced the conclusion of their contractual negotiations to produce the Stereax range of mm-scale batteries. A ten-year manufacturing license has been signed to produce the batteries at Cirtec’s Lowell, MA facility.
“We are delighted to be working with Cirtec for the commercialization of Stereax,” said Ilika CEO
Graeme Purdy. “Cirtec has a strong track record in the commercialization of miniature medical devices, and we believe this partnership is well-positioned to ensure a high quality, reliable and scalable supply of Stereax batteries to our customers.”
Stereax batteries are ultrathin and rechargeable, enabling medical device developers to design smaller wearable devices, sensors, implants, and other smart components.
This partnership reinforces Cirtec’s involvement in system level miniaturization within the medical device industry. While supporting Cirtec’s manufacturing and commercialization activities, Ilika’s focus continues to be on advancing technology development and IP licensing.
Cirtec Medical CEO Brian Highley commented, “we are excited by the prospect of adding Stereax battery technology to our portfolio of medical device solutions. Our 20 years of experience in the design, development, and manufacture of medical devices positions Cirtec strongly to work with Ilika to bring Stereax battery technology to market. We believe this collaboration fits right into our strengths and expands upon our mission to vertically integrate our capabilities to support our offerings to the implantable and wearable device markets.”
