To respond to the increased adoption of digitally based technologies for patient/provider interaction, Ximedica—a provider of product development services to medical device and healthcare companies—has added interactive design capabilities to its service offering. The new service offering also includes ramping up with a new staff member.
“Interaction design is the bridge between the coded world of technology and the people that have to use it to inform and in their health,” said Aidan Petrie, chief innovation officer and co-founder. “As Ximedica works on novel technologies that are not only completing clinical tasks, diagnostics and therapeutics but are also providing data to any number of stakeholders patient providers, payers and administrators alike, acquiring this expertise in-house is essential.”
Jeff McCloud has joined Ximedica as an interaction designer, bringing a background in the development of virtual/augmented reality interfaces. Among many projects he is credited with is the design and production of an arthritis simulation glove to enable a better understanding of physical disabilities, according to the company. He also has spent a significant amount of his career researching and designing a multi-modal interface to help individuals with traumatic brain injuries to drive safely.
The addition of McCloud “signifies Ximedica’s ongoing mission to put humans at the center of medtech design,” according to the company.
Headquartered in Providence, R.I., Ximedica is a full-service product development firm exclusively focused on bringing medical technologies from first concept to market launch.
